Online sellers are honest to a fault when they describe the things in their auctions, and sometimes they will get things a little mixed up in a funny way, so much so that if something isn’t all that expensive I’ll have to buy it just to see what they heck they were actually talking about.
Take this one, which the seller described as a “Brown and Bigelow” pencil.
Brown and Bigelow was the company that made the Redipoint line of pencils, and this pencil doesn’t look like any Redipoint I had ever seen. I have seen large lighter pencils made by Brown and Bigelow using that same green marbled celluloid, but that’s as far as the similarities go.
When the pencil arrived, I was looking forward to seeing how it was actually marked, if at all. Imagine my surprise:
Huh. “Brown and Bigelow / Style G1965.”
I take it all back . . . now I’m going back to the online auctions to take a closer look at that “Wahlersarp” that’s been on there for months.
