Some time ago (
https://leadheadpencils.blogspot.com/2017/08/craig-sheaffers-gift-to-edd-dawson.html), I wrote about Edd Dawson, the pencil collector and stationer from Des Moines, Iowa who had enough pull with Sheaffer to warrant the presentation of a solid gold pencil with Craig Sheaffer’s name engraved on it, mounted on a display card with a personal message from Craig himself:

Sheaffer indicates that “the first pencils in the collection were Sheaffers.”

Perhaps pencils such as this one?

This one came from Jerome Lobner, from the museum that we believe was likely the final resting place of Edd Dawson’s massive collection.  It’s almost thirty years older than the 1948 model presented to him by Sheaffer.

Note that this is stamped “Lifetime,” dating it to 1924 or later, with metal pencils falling from favor generally by 1927.  The cap also indicates the pencil is gold filled, even though that tarnish looks a lot more like you’d see on a solid gold piece:

And on the reverse, you’ll find Edd Dawson’s name:

But wait . . . look closer . . . that’s not just simple engraving:

That is some really fine brocading:
